St Jude 2018 – PLAY LIVE – Recap

Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.
— Vincent van Gogh

I don’t even know how to start this post, so I guess the only thing that I can say, is thank you.

I had a goal this year to raise $1,000 and you crushed every stretch goal we’ve placed, even our final one of $30,000.

Let me say it louder for the people in the back:

$30,000

This year I worked really hard to make it a year we’d never forget. I reached out to some amazing human beings, also known as Devs and Publishers, who provided us with game codes. I came up with crazy milestones, screamed during some horror marathon streams, and ran my body into exhaustion.

All because I believed in a dream and a goal to raise as much money as our little community could.

“We danced, we screamed, and I certainly cried.”

Truthfully, I don’t think I’ve ever cried so many tears of happiness in my entire life. That’s not an exaggeration, that is the truth.

You all spent 30 days inspiring me to want to do more, motivating me in a way that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to explain.

During the METRO marathon stream.

Unfortunately, it was during the final weekend that I ended up getting really sick, right in the middle of our 24HR stream. I hated ending the stream, even pausing for a few hours felt like I was quitting, that I was giving up, but I knew something was wrong.

I wasn’t able to finish that stream and I ended up staying offline for over ten days, I couldn’t even stream on the final day of the campaign. This was something that truly hurt the most – not being able to give us that final push. We were less than $4,500 away from that $30,000.

Me in my element

HOWEVER, while I was in the hospital, you guys banded together and raised $5,106 without me. All of you have absolutely blown me away. I cannot believe your generosity and your kindness. You have destroyed every single expectation that I have ever imagined this year.

To put it into perspective, last year we raised $8,608 for the entire month of May.

I have no idea how we’re going to even attempt this again next year.

Calling my mom when we reached the $20,000 mark

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
